Sun Valley - as the song goes "It happened in Sun Valley, not so very long ago." Well, I think that is how the song goes.

I am happy to write about Sun Valley as a great place to have your destination wedding. I had the pleasure of working at this wonderful resort for several years from 1990 through about 1992. Although some time has passed, not much has changed about Sun Valley. It has grown, of course, but the charm and history that it has always had is still there.

I remember a lot of things about Sun Valley. I worked as a "set-up" guy for their conventions staff. It was a grueling job. Sun Valley is booked full for weddings and conventions virtually year-round. Sure, there is a short off-season, but for the most part, we were busy all of the time. The job was tough in that the standards that Sun Valley has are second-to-none. If they put on an event, or host a wedding, every detail is taken care of. Silverware is polished, linens are pressed to perfection, and the staff are tidy and well groomed. Paying attention to detail was a big part of the job. It was a very satisfying job in that without fail, weddings went off without a hitch.

The resort itself is just up the road from Ketchum. As mentioned, the resort doesn't change much. I was fortunate to be able to visit in 2005, and it was almost exactly how I remembered it. Beautiful, rustic, and oozing with alpine charm. There are several world-class restaurants here that will accommodate your wedding party before and after the event. The Lodge Dining Room (or "LDR") as the locals call it is perhaps one of the fanciest restaurants you'll ever experience. The wait staff are formal, and the room is spectacular with a view of Mt. Baldy and the ski area. Sunday brunch is absolutely spectacular. Not a detail is missed. For slightly more affordable fare, the Konditorei features the ambiance and flavors of Europe. I actually served as a "crepe chef" there for some time. I cooked up these sweet delights table side.

As you and your wedding party experience Sun Valley, you may run into movie stars or politicians, or other folks of fame. I happened to run into Bruce and Demi years ago at the pond in Sun Valley. They were very cool, and down-to-earth. It was nice to see that they could feed the swans with their kids and not be hassled by anyone.

A popular wedding location, or reception location in Sun Valley is Trail creek Cabin. There are some spectacular outdoor areas to get married, or you can exchange vows in this rustic cabin just up the road from the resort.

Well, I hope this gives you a bit of encouragement if you are thinking about Sun Valley as a wedding spot. A last note is that it is surprisingly easy to get to. There is a busy airport just down the road in Hailey that connects with some of the bigger cities in the neighboring states.
